Short Term Accommodation (Including Respite)

Providing a Comfortable and Supportive Temporary Stay Tailored to Your Needs

Short Term Accommodation

What Does Short Term Accommodation Support Mean?

Short Term Accommodation (STA), sometimes referred to as respite, is funded by the NDIS to provide you with a short stay away from your usual home environment—typically up to 28 days per year. STA gives you the opportunity to:

Try New Things

Experience different activities, environments, or social settings in a safe, supportive context.

Make New Friends & Develop Skills

– Join group or individual programs designed to build confidence, independence, and social connections.

Support Your Carers

– Allow your informal supports (family or friends) to take a break, reducing caregiver burnout and helping maintain your current living arrangement.

STA is most useful when your usual support network is unavailable (for example, on holiday or unable to provide care temporarily). By living away from home for a short period, you and your carers both benefit: you gain new experiences and supports, and your carers get a planned respite.

Service Include

What We Offer Under Short Term Accommodation Support

At Assist Lifestyle, we partner with approved STA providers to coordinate flexible, person-centred overnight or short-stay programs that include:

  • Accommodation & Food
    • A safe, accessible place to stay—whether in a shared group home setting, a small cluster of private rooms, or an individual unit—arranged through NDIS-approved providers.

    • Nutritious meals, snacks, and dietary accommodations as needed, prepared by trained staff or provided through reputable catering services.
  • Personal Care
    • Hands-on assistance with showering, dressing, medication prompts, and any other daily personal activities you require, delivered by qualified support workers.

    • Continence support, toileting assistance, and mobility help (where needed) to ensure your comfort and dignity throughout your stay.
  • Agreed-Upon Activities
    • Structured programs tailored to your interests and goals—this could include outings to community events, group craft workshops, recreational sports, or short skill-building sessions (e.g., cooking classes, life-skills practice).

    • Flexibility to design a combination of activities that align with your personal objectives—whether you want to relax in a quiet setting or explore new social opportunities.
  • Flexible Duration & Usage
    • Up to 28 Days Per Year: You can choose how to use your STA funding—either in a single block (up to 14 consecutive days) or smaller stays (for example, a weekend once per month).

    • Group vs Individual Support: Standard rates apply for group-based stays. If you require one-on-one support due to your disability, we can arrange individual-price STA with appropriate evidence from your NDIS plan.
  • Budget Management & Coordination
    • We help you understand the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits for STA, ensuring your funding is used efficiently.

    • If you have STA funding in your Core Supports budget, we guide you on how best to allocate it—prioritizing your goals (respite, skill-building, or social engagement).
  • Seamless Planning & Communication
    • Liaison with your Support Coordinator, Local Area Coordinator, or NDIA Planner to confirm STA funding, eligibility, and scheduling.

    • Continuous updates to your NDIS plan records, ensuring you—and your support network—know exactly how many STA days remain and how they’ve been used.
Why Choose Us?

Why Choose Short Term Accommodation From Assist Lifestyle?

Expert Coordination & Provider Network

  • We maintain partnerships with reputable, NDIS-registered STA and respite providers across multiple regions—offering you varied accommodation styles (shared living, private units, or host family models) that suit your preferences.
  • Our team handles all the logistics: booking your stay, arranging transport, and confirming personal care requirements—so you can focus on enjoying the experience.

Person-Centred, Flexible Planning

  • Every STA stay is co-designed with you. We begin by discussing your goals—whether that’s learning a new hobby, practicing daily routines away from home, or simply giving your carers a scheduled break.
  • Together, we develop a tailored itinerary that balances downtime, personal care, and skill-building activities, ensuring your stay matches your interests and NDIS-funded objectives.

Safety, Comfort & Quality Assurance

  • All STA providers and support workers we engage adhere to NDIS Practice Standards for quality, safety, and respectful care. We verify their credentials, conduct regular site visits, and solicit your feedback to maintain high standards.
  • If you require one-on-one or specialist support—due to complex health or behavioural needs—we arrange dedicated staffing so you can participate fully and safely in all activities.

Empowering Carers & Strengthening Home Supports

  • By offering reliable, planned respite, we help prevent caregiver fatigue and maintain your broader support ecosystem. Carers can rest assured knowing you’re in a safe environment with skilled staff.
  • When you return home, we debrief with you and your carers—sharing observations on any new skills or strategies you practiced—so that everyone benefits from your STA experience.

Ongoing Review & Adaptation

  • We monitor each stay to track how well it meets your goals and identify any adjustments needed (longer stays, different activity mix, or increased personal care).
  • Should your support requirements change (for example, transitioning from STA to Medium Term Accommodation or exploring other home-and-living supports), we guide you through each next step—advocating for any additional NDIS funding if necessary.
