Social and Community Participation

What Does Participate in Community Mean?

Assistance with Social & Community Participation (Group 0103) is a Core Support that helps NDIS participants connect with their local community, build social networks, and develop confidence in new environments. Rather than simply staying at home, this support empowers you to attend social events, join groups, and explore activities that promote both wellbeing and inclusion.

Through Participate in Community, you receive funded assistance to:

Attend Social Events, Groups, and Community Outings

Whether it’s visiting a local café with friends, joining a weekly book club, or attending a community festival, you’ll have a support worker accompany and guide you.

Build Confidence and Comfort in New Environments

Adjusting to unfamiliar settings can feel overwhelming. Our team provides encouragement, coaching, and step-by-step guidance so you feel safe and at ease.

Participate in Sports, Hobbies, Faith-Based or Cultural Events

From joining a beginner’s soccer team to attending a cultural celebration or faith gathering, we help you engage in activities that match your interests and goals.

Receive One-on-One or Small Group Social Support

You decide whether you’d prefer individualized assistance or a small-group setting. We tailor the level of support so you can practice social skills at your own pace.

Overall, Participate in Community aims to reduce isolation, foster meaningful connections, and help you gain autonomy in deciding which activities best align with your interests and NDIS goals.

Service Include

What We Offer Under Participate in Community Support

  • Accompanied Social Outings

We arrange and attend outings such as visiting parks, libraries, cinema screenings, or local cafés with you, ensuring you feel supported from start to finish. Our support workers will help you plan transportation, navigate routes, and introduce you to new social settings.

  • Group Activity Facilitation

If you wish to join a group—like a hobby circle, recreational sports team, or faith‐based gathering—we’ll connect you to suitable local programs and attend initial sessions alongside you. Over time, we help you build the confidence to participate independently.

  • Confidence-Building Coaching

Through gentle exposure exercises—such as practicing introductions, role-playing conversations, or exploring an unfamiliar venue in advance—we teach coping strategies for anxiety, encourage positive self-talk, and celebrate each milestone.

  • Support for Sporting and Recreational Interests

Whether you’re interested in team sports (e.g., basketball, cricket), solo activities (e.g., swimming, yoga), or hobby‐based clubs (e.g., gardening, art classes), we guide you through registration, equipment needs, and attendance, building both physical and social skills.

  • Assistance with Faith or Cultural Events

For participants who wish to engage in religious services, cultural festivals, or community ceremonies, we offer tailored support—explaining traditions, liaising with event organizers, and accompanying you to ensure you feel comfortable and respected.

  • One-on-One or Small Group Social Support

You can choose either personalized 1:1 support or join a small group of peers with similar interests. In either setting, we focus on practicing conversation skills, navigating social cues, and forming genuine friendships.

  • Ongoing Planning and Review

We review each outing or activity to identify what went well and areas for improvement. If you encounter barriers (e.g., sensory overload, communication challenges), we adjust the support plan and explore alternative strategies.
